For two hundred years Quenby Cross made rope on a straight, 300 metre lane behind the quay. The rope works closed long ago; the lane stayed. The Ropewalk lines it with two terraces of brick and lime-rendered homes, set close to the lane the way the old workers' cottages were.
These are our smallest homes, two and three bedrooms, with a few detached Shippons at the eastern end facing the new Rope Green. Cars park in courts behind the terraces, so the lane itself is for walking.
