Releases, progress and the occasional long read about bricks.

Phase two released at Orchard Reach

Phase two at Orchard Reach is the part of the field we were most careful with. The eight homes sit between the new lane and the retained orchard, so most of the gardens end at a row of old cider trees rather than a fence.

Prices for the released plots are on the site plan now. The show home on plot 9 is open Thursday to Monday, and Hollie Brennan can walk you through the plots that are still in the ground.

Why we still employ our own bricklayers

We build about thirty homes a year, which is small enough to know every bricklayer by name. Eleven of them are employed by us directly, the longest-serving for twenty-two years.

It costs more. In return we get consistent joints, a recessed bed that throws a proper shadow, reveals that are a full brick deep and window sills that are set, not stuck. A buyer will never read that in a brochure, but they will see it every evening when the light comes across the front of the house.

Planting the orchard before the first foundation

At every site we plant the structural landscaping before the first foundations go in: hedges, orchard gaps and street trees. By the time the first families move in, the planting has had two growing seasons.

At Orchard Reach that meant forty-one new trees grafted from the old orchard's own varieties, planted in the winter before the diggers arrived.

Our first all-electric homes turn one: what the bills show

Twelve households at Barrow Leaze shared a full year of meter readings with us. Across the group, the median annual heating and hot water cost was lower than the same households told us they paid in their previous homes, which were mostly older and gas-heated.

These are a small number of homes, with different sizes and habits, so treat them as an illustration rather than a promise. The full anonymised table is available from the sales team.

Show home now open at The Ropewalk

The first show home at The Ropewalk is a two-bedroom Bothy on plot 2, furnished with pieces from makers within twenty miles of Quenby Cross.

Marcus Ede runs the sales office from the ground floor of plot 1 until the terrace completes. Appointments are not essential, but they mean you will have the house to yourself.
