Calm, exact buildings for the lives and work that go on inside them.

A two-storey house of dark timber and white render at dusk, its glazed ground floor lit warmly beneath a large old tree, with a lawn in front.

    (02) Studio — approach, process, people Clerkenwell

    The studio

We are a small studio of architects and interior designers. We take on a handful of projects at a time, so the people you meet at the first conversation are the people who draw your building and stand on site with you.

    1. i.

      Keep what works

Before we draw anything new we look hard at what is already there: the structure, the light, the way a place is used. Often the best move is a small one.

    2. ii.

      Fewer, better materials

A short palette, chosen early and detailed carefully, ages well and costs less to build than a long one.

    3. iii.

      Plain speaking

Fees, programme and risks set out in writing at each stage, so there are no surprises when it matters.

    How a project runs

Five stages. Durations are typical for a house; every project is different.

We work with the same structural engineers, quantity surveyors and heritage consultants on most projects, and bring them in when a project needs them.

Every project is led by a director from the first call to handover.

Shape a brief in five short steps.

Not sure how to describe your project yet? Answer a few questions and the assistant will turn them into a tidy one-page brief you can copy, or drop straight into the enquiry form.

    • 01It helps you organise your thoughts. It doesn't design anything.
    • 02It won't give planning, heritage, structural or legal advice. The studio will advise on those.
